With only two days left in Vietnam, with a 30 hour travel schedule to Europe ahead of me, I got caught in a monsoon while out boating (see last post for the lovely pics of this boating excursion). Naturally, I was quick to put my rain coat on and wrapped my camera inside the coat as well. My phone was in my purse at my feet, and little did I know, it was getting soaked.
Unfortunately, there are NO Apple Store's in Southeast Asia, much less rural Northern Vietnam. So two days later, I boarded my long flight with no source of entertainment or means of communication thanks to my water-damaged phone. And so my biggest piece of advice for travelers going anywhere: even if you're packing light, don't rely on your phone for all of your entertainment. I brought zero hard copy books, and had no way to play music other than through my phone. My dad gave me this thing called a Mighty Spotify Audio Music Player last Christmas, but of course I didn't have it with me. Lesson learned: I now go everywhere with my Mighty and at least one book or notebook. The thirty hour journey to Europe gave me FAR too much time to be without music or reading...I've learned my lesson.
Thankfully, many an Apple Store awaited me in Europe, and I had a new phone right away. Up next, some outfits from Ibiza and Amsterdam!
