Sixteen Candles

Exactly six months ago today, I turned sixteen. But turning "sixteen" wasn't what made this birthday so special. The best night of my life was the birthday party my parents through for me: all of my friends, most of my grade, my extended family, and more came to celebrate my sweet sixteen with me! But the craziest part (and the part that proves just how gullible I am!) is that it was a SURPRISE party.  Long story short, my parents told me I was going to a modelling gig...and I believed them! I got all gussied up in a party dress (yep, the one pictured here! These pictures were actually taken the day of my party, or "shoot" as I thought I was going to!). My mom put countless hours of hard work into making it the best night of my life...and boy did she succeed! When I walked into the giant ballroom, I was scared that I'd walked into someone else's party and I started to back up. Then it hit me--my birthday was two days away, and suddenly all of the little hints that I hadn't picked up on came rushing at me--including an exchange student slipping up the first week of school and flat out asking me if "that was my party" she'd gotten an invite for. I just couldn't believe that something so wonderful would happen to someone like me, so I didn't pick up on the subtle hints. And of course, seeing my best friend Hannah emerge from the sea of people gave it away. Can you believe my parents pulled off the surprise?? Six months later and I still remember every little detail and perfect moment from that night! Thank you for millionth time, Mom and Dad <3

Today is also special for another birthday-related reason. My beloved puppy, Ellie, is ONE YEAR OLD! I've had her for nearly 10 months now and her quirks and qualities have won a special place in my heart. The picture at the end is her in her younger days. Is she cute, or what?

I'm stealing the name of my friend's Tumblr for this one, but it's just perfect for the vibe of this outfit. (Thanks Mary! :D)

As you can see, I'm finally suited up in the proper Spring attire! No more blacks, browns, grays. At least not today. I can't promise I'm done for the season! ;)

Anyways, there is something very exciting happening in my life right now! I have the tiniest closet ever. And that's only accentuated by the tons of clothes I've packed into it! Well, that tiny closet where I stored all 40 of my dresses, about 20 shirts, 10 jackets, and 15 skirts is getting a makeover! I'm beyond excited. What used to be my room is now being transformed into one huge closet all in itself!!! I'm moving into a smaller room in the house where basically I'll only have room for a bed and a bookshelf, and my entire room is going to have racks of my clothes, a dress form/mannequin thing, a couch (to sit and admire my clothes from of course), jewelry trays, and bins of tights/socks/scarves/etc. The best part is that the closet where I used to keep EVERYTHING is now going to be JUST for shoes! I have a closet....just for shoes...

I'm still a bit in shock. But good shock. I cannot WAIT to have a space where picking out my outfits and getting inspired is easier than ever! It's going to be purple, since that's the most dominant color in my wardrobe (black wouldn't look good on the walls... :P). We're also putting mirrors up on one of the walls so it will be a big giant mirror wall!! How sweet is that?? And to add a really personal touch, I'm getting a wall decal that will be the logo of the blog, "WEAR ABOUTS", big and bold and um, awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Can you tell I'm excited? Yeah, I'm excited. I am EXCITED. AHHHH I'M SO EXCITEDDDD!!!

I'll post pictures up when it's all complete. But for now, here's a "pastellar" outfit to match the beautiful Spring weather!

I'm not really religious, but every year when Lent rolls around I like to give something up as a challenge for myself. I usually never make it . Last year, I was vegetarian...and I made it the whole time! As a picky eater, being a vegetarian is not ideal. My mother was very agitated when every meal she put on the table I declined. I ate a lot of salad last spring. This year, I went a little bit easier on my mom.  My normal diet consists of chocolate (I gave that up one year, too...didn't make it more than a week!), bread, turkey sandwiches, pizza, ice cream, cheez-its, snack foods, cookies, and pasta. This year, I decided I was going to give up desserts and junk food of all types. I made it 5 long, hungry days. I just COULDN'T DO IT. I was barely eating anything. Lesson learned? Eat desserts and junk food! Just kidding (sort of). Although I couldn't do it, one of my friends could. She didn't give up desserts though. She's being a vegan for forty days. That's even harder! If you want to be turned off of meat/animal products forever, their are some pretty nasty facts out there which are pretty convincing if you want to become a vegan. Don't check it out (I did)--you'll be sufficiently grossed out for life. Did any of you give up anything for Lent (and make it this far)?

Say hello to my brand new skirt from Sheinside! What do you guys think?

I really like the concept and the look of it, but to be honest I'm not quite sure how else to style it. Plus, it's a bit mature for my style: I even had a tough time finding an outfit for it! This look seems a bit too"grown-up" to me. Despite all of these cons, I'm still glad I selected this skirt. A little style challenge is good to further develop my style! I also found a way to add some fun in with a pop of Bubblicious pink. You may notice I don't wear bright colors enough. Or even colors in general! And it's true--I have a lot of black, brown, and neutral tones in my wardrobe that just go together so well!

I want that to change this Spring and Summer. I'm going to try orienting a bit more color into every outfit! That should be easy with the bracelet on it's way to me from Rocks Paper Metal...talk about neon! Can't wait to get my hands on this sweet accessory!

Also, if you like this skirt your in LUCK. Get 20% off your order at Sheinside with code RORY20 until the end of may! They've got plenty of young, fun, (and yes, colorful) clothing to get you through the season! I'm sure with some effort I'll find more fun ways to style this skirt
