This is my first try at using my new camera and boy, since I took these pictures, I've learned a ton! These are (somewhat) not in focus and were not shot at the most ideal time of day. But, I've improved a TON (I think) and the new cam is now producing better photos than I've ever taken. I may or may not have read the manual cover to cover....hehe :P

Firefly Day 2 Outfit

Firefly Day 2 was even better than Day 1 because I got to meet one of the coolest bands ever...Grouplove! They're with Katie and I in the second picture. Day 2 also included Imagine Dragons (my fave band ever) and Outkast (who had a stellar late night performance). Music festivals are just magical...I'd highly recommend them to anyone interested in music, fashion, and having a good time!

Thanks to Katie for mastering photography long enough to take these pictures! I think she did pretty well, yeah? Also, you'll have to forgive me for going "basic white girl" on y'all with the flower crown. I was at a festival--I felt the need to. Secretly, I actually like flower crowns, and you may remember me modeling for my good friend Lauren's shop, Echoing Waters, for the past few years. But she's moved to Virginia sadly so that won't be happening anymore (although perhaps it will, once I'm at school!), so I've had to channel my inner hippie elsewhere. Going to a preppy private school for high school...and heading to a preppy public one for college...are not quite the right scenes to be wearing things like flower crowns. So I have to let my inner hippie out only at the right times. And this seemed like the perfect one!

Beach & Beginnings

For Father's Day, my family went to the beach for the first time this summer. It was the perfect day--not too hot, not a cloud in the sky, public school kids still in school--so not too crowded. Perfect. We went to Surf Taco for lunch as we always do (it's a highlight of the Jersey Shore--best Mexican food you'll ever have, I promise) and Strollo's for Italian Ice afterward. But the highlight of my day wasn't the beach.

When we headed home in the late afternoon, I took off again to spend dinner at my friend and future roommate's house. There are four Jefferson Scholars in the Class of 2018 from NJ, and so the four of us met up for a night of catching up and getting to know each other better.

I wish I could put into words how I feel about these friends or how I feel about Virginia or how the rest of my life has been forever changed by what I'm receiving at all levels--emotional, physical, and mental--from the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, but I can't. Words are the means by which I've always expressed myself and yet for the first time in my life I find myself at a loss for how to describe something. I guess that speaks volumes about what I feel for this place and these people. The girl who uses words to capture her emotions can't find the ones to accurately capture this feeling. I've talked to you so much about Virginia at this point so I'll end there. You're probably tired of hearing me go on and on about it but I haven't tired and won't tire for the rest of my life. I've included a picture of the four of us below... sorry about the quality :)

Again and Again

When I find an outfit I like, I'm SUCH a repeat offender. You've seen me wear this sunflower dress three times now in the past months with only slight variations. I think this styling is my favorite though--with a simple jean jacket, belt that matches sandals, and the perfect sunny yellow necklace. This necklace is one of my favorites, and I don't usually like long necklaces!

I'm also testing out my newest watch from Flex. These rubber designs are perfect for summer and pool season, don't you think?

Brooklyn Blues & Yellows

And so, after being unhappy with the look and feel of my blog, after neglecting and not posting for too many days, after promising postings again and again, I'm finally, really, truly, actually BACK.

And it feels good. I hope you like the new cleaner look of my blog, and if you have trouble finding anything, don't hesitate to ask!

***

These photos were shot in Brooklyn this week as my friends and I adventured down by the water and drove around the city just for fun. It was awesome to have my camera in tow and to get back into the feel of taking fine art pictures (you don't even know how long it's been...). I came home feeling incredibly satisfied--not because we'd done anything particularly interesting, but because I'd gotten back into photography and I'd spent a day with good friends.

Don't you love when a day, no matter how uneventful, can leave you feeling like that?

Contradictions

Dress- Forever 21 | Jacket- ASOS | Shoes- Vince Camuto | Necklace- c/o Vanessa Mooney | Watch- Daniel Wellington

Bare legs and snow are something that should never ever happen. The day I took these photos it was over FIFTY degrees and yet still, there was snow on the ground. As the camera snapped I heard branches dripping over and over and over. It sounded almost like rain yet no rain was falling. It's a weird feeling, that sort of contradiction. When you hear rain but it's not raining--or when you've got bare legs but there's snow on the ground.
